Because of the scale of our business we are able to offer a fast turn round for clapper refurbishment and replacement. For refurbishment work if the clappers are in our works on a Monday morning we would normally expect to have them ready for collection/refitting on the following Friday, thus ensuring the bells are out of use for the minimum length of time.

When refurbishing old wrought iron clappers we always anneal the clappers in our forge to stress relieve them which greatly assists in preventing fatigue fractures and consequent breakage. If the degree of wear to the clapper balls is heavy the shafts are twisted and re-forged before annealing, otherwise the clapper balls are re-profiled. Bushes are always replaced with individually turned and accurately reamed Tufnol bushes resiliently mounted in neoprene rubber and all hinge pins are replaced in stainless steel. Any defective bolts, nuts, washers etc. are replaced.

After refurbishment by Nicholson Engineering you can be confident of performance equal to and often better than when new. The cost of clapper refurbishment is surprisingly low, normally ranging from £70 - £95 + VAT per bell ex.works, the actual cost depending upon the type of clapper fitted.
